Powder Coating Process
1. Surface Preparation: Before powder coating, cold rolled steel plates undergo surface preparation to remove contaminants and create a suitable coating foundation.
Typical preparation methods include:
Dust and residue removal
Oil and grease cleaning
Mechanical surface treatment when required
Proper preparation improves powder adhesion and ensures long-term coating performance.
2. Pretreatment Process (Optional): For applications requiring enhanced corrosion resistance, chemical pretreatment can be integrated before powder application.
Common treatment options include:
Iron phosphate conversion coating
Phosphating treatment
Other customized surface conditioning processes
Pretreatment improves coating adhesion and increases the durability of the finished surface.
3. Drying: After cleaning or chemical treatment, the steel plates enter the drying stage to remove residual moisture.
A clean and dry surface helps prevent coating defects and ensures stable powder application.
4. Electrostatic Powder Coating: The dried steel plates are conveyed into the PVC spray booth for powder application.
The coating process includes:
Automatic electrostatic spray guns for uniform powder coverage
Manual touch-up spraying for detailed areas
Controlled airflow for efficient powder utilization
Electrostatically charged powder particles are attracted to the grounded steel surfaces, forming an even coating layer.
5. Powder Curing: After spraying, the coated steel plates pass through the curing oven.
During curing:
Powder particles melt and flow into a continuous coating film
Chemical cross-linking forms a strong protective layer
Coating hardness and mechanical performance are improved
The cured coating provides excellent resistance against impact, corrosion, and environmental exposure.
6. Cooling: After leaving the curing oven, the coated plates enter the cooling section.
Natural cooling allows the coating film to stabilize while maintaining surface appearance and performance.
7. Quality Inspection: The finished steel plates are inspected according to customer requirements, including:
Coating thickness
Surface appearance
Adhesion strength
Coating uniformity
Defect inspection
This ensures every coated component achieves reliable quality and consistent finishing performance.
